About Event

A salon hosted by Antikythera x Disintegrator

The next intelligence explosion won't come solely from the weights of foundation models but rather from an expanding and heterogeneous new society of minds. It is in the interactions of people and agents at planetary scale that an emerging, hybrid, collective intelligence will redefine what societies are and how they work.

Human intelligence is best understood as a social phenomenon, a thing that does not belong to this or that individual but is instead shared, distributed, and constructed at scale. No single brain contains language, writing, or mathematics. Instead, ideas are proliferated, experimented upon, corrected, and compounded through social methods and in common media.

We can expand this principle to the type of intelligence we are building: a stack of chips, models, harnesses, evaluators, interfaces, and organizations that coalesce with human critical and creative thinkers into an intellectually vital human-agent ecology.

If we really want to bring about the next intelligence explosion, we need to keep the connective tissue of this ecology open. We need to ensure it can be read from, written to, and experimented with across all of its layers.

This is a larger demand than open-weight models or open-source frameworks. It means interfaces any agent can speak, harnesses anyone can run, evaluators anyone can audit and contest, and larger-scale organizations that new agents–and the people behind them–can enter and participate in freely.

Bringing together leaders from industry, research, and culture, we will explore the future of the open intelligence stack. Expect roundtables that move past the open-vs-closed weights debate, instead bringing the concept of openness in software and society solidly into the agentic era.

The salon is part of Antikythera’s current Research Unit Agentworld & Disintegrator’s Superdark Factory.

Antikythera is a think tank on the philosophy of planetary computation and the evolution of intelligence.

Disintegrator is a cybernetics lab for the agentic era.

The open call to contribute to the Agentworld Special Issue of the Antikythera Journal, published online with MIT Press, is available at agentworld.antikythera.org.

The research is unfolding across London (July), San Francisco (September), and Cambridge, MA (November).

In San Francisco, there will also be an Agentworld x Superdark Factory double-lecture at Gray Area on Friday, September 11th.
