ASGA Call 93 - Understanding American Lamb: The Evolving Meat Consumer and Marketplace
As more lamb is raised on solar sites in the United States, what does the marketplace for that lamb look like and what are meat consumers looking for in their lamb product?
We're seeing exciting trends in the demand for lamb in the U.S. While lamb consumption continues to be dominated by imports, with over 70% of lamb consumed coming from abroad, the growth in consumer demand for lamb is creating opportunities to raise more lamb domestically. As solar grazing continues to grow, it will be a key avenue for expanding domestic lamb production to take advantage of these growth opportunities.
To help us understand the changing lamb market, Camren Maierle and Megan Wortman from the American Lamb Board (ALB) will present the latest research into consumer demand and lamb marketplace trends. Their research provides insights into who the lamb consumer is and what their preferences are. They'll also discuss the growth in demand for lamb and how domestic lamb production fits into that picture, as well as the potential for future growth.
The discussion will be helpful for solar gaziers and solar developers looking to understand how the lamb raised on solar sites is feeding into a growing lamb meat market.
Note on webinar scheduling: We're shifting our public webinars to the afternoon in early 2026. This webinar will start at 2:00pm ET on the usual first Wednesday of the month.
