Join us for an engaging afternoon exploring what we can do to reduce dementia risk—co-hosted by Jay Ingram and Dr. Allison Sekuler, President and Chief Scientist at Baycrest Academy for Research and Education and the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation.

Meet the Hosts:
Dr. Allison Sekuler
President and Chief Scientist at the Baycrest Academy for Research and Education and the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation, Sandra A. Rotman Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience, Professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto, and co-host of the Defy Dementia podcast.
Jay Ingram
Jay Ingram has more than 40 years of experience as an author, broadcaster, and science communicator. He was a co-host of Discovery Channel’s science show, Daily Planet, for 16 years and was instrumental in shaping the program's format.
Meet the panellists:
Dr. Alex Henri-Bhargava
Dr. Alex Henri-Bhargava is a behavioural neurologist and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at UBC, based in Victoria, BC. His clinical practice and research focus on dementia, neurocognitive disorders, and improving care for patients and families affected by cognitive impairment.
Amy Cameron and Joe Ross
Both retired to Victoria from international careers in program development, IT, and banking in 2018. Their lives changed after Amy’s diagnosis of younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2019. They have since learned to better function as a pair, to live more in the moment, and to share their experiences with family, friends, and the wider public. They hope to raise awareness of the issues associated with living with dementia and work with others to achieve that.
Dr. Stuart MacDonald
Dr. Stuart MacDonald is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Victoria and a principal investigator with the CARING Dementia Cluster. His research focuses on cognitive aging and the early identification and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease through community-engaged lifestyle interventions.
Dr. Mariko Sakamoto
Dr. Mariko Sakamoto is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria and founder of the Dementia Action Co-Lab. Her community-engaged research focuses on co-creating dementia-inclusive communities, reducing stigma, and supporting the social inclusion and citizenship of people living with dementia and care partners.
