[Peak District] Day Hike at Mam Tor & The Great Ridge

​Hello! This isn’t a formally organized event; just an open invite to join what I’ll be doing that day. If you’d like to come along, meet me at the station so we can take the same train (trains come every hour and I'd prefer to complete the hike & return back into the city before it gets dark, hence the early start).

This itinerary follows the direct route from Manchester Piccadilly to Edale, the village nearest to the main trailhead for the hike.

7:30 AM Walk to/Meet at Manchester Piccadilly Station
7:45 AM Train to Edale Catch the direct train service from Manchester Piccadilly station to Edale station (on the Hope Valley line). The next train is 9:31 AM.
8:31 AM Arrive at Edale The journey is very scenic and takes approximately 46 minutes.
8:45 AM Walk to the Trailhead From Edale station, it's a short walk into the village to begin the trail. The circular route will lead you up to the Great Ridge.
9:00 AM Begin the Hike Start the Mam Tor and Great Ridge Walk. The route typically passes through Hollins Cross, the summit of Mam Tor (517m), and continues along the ridge to Lose Hill.

1:00 PM Complete the Hike The main circular route is about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) and takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete, depending on your pace and how long you stop for photos.
1:30 PM Lunch / Refreshments Edale is a lovely, small village. Stop at a local pub like The Old Nag's Head or The Rambler Inn for a well-deserved post-hike meal or a pint before heading back to the station.
5:48 PM Train to Manchester Piccadilly Catch one of the direct trains back to Manchester. The other times are 3:48pm or 6:47pm.
6:34 PM Arrive in Manchester Arrive back at Piccadilly Station.
