International Generalist Day 2026 🌍

Ever feel like your career doesn't run in a straight line - and wondered if that's actually the point?

Join Bethany Wright, founder of The Not There Yet Project and host of Notes from the Not There Yet podcast, in Manchester for International Generalist Day - a global celebration happening simultaneously across cities worldwide on 16th September 2026.

Bethany is hosting a morning of stories and reflection at [Venue TBC] to bring together Manchester's generalists - career-changers, portfolio workers, and anyone whose path doesn't fit on one CV line - to swap stories, share honest learnings from two years of interviewing people mid-pivot, and take part in a short workshop built from what those conversations taught her.

What is a generalist?

Professionals who apply their skills across multiple domains, connect disparate ideas, or serve as "translators" between different teams and disciplines. If you've ever felt your career doesn't fit in a single box, this celebration is for you.

What to expect:

  • Connect with fellow generalists in Manchester

  • Hear Bethany's top learnings from her first year of the Notes from the Not There Yet podcast - honest stories from people who retrained, pivoted, and rebuilt in their 30s, 40s and beyond

  • Take part in "Rewrite the Timeline" - a short, reflective workshop on letting go of the "right" way to do a career (see workshop plan below)

  • Celebrate the power of diverse skillsets and squiggly careers

  • Be part of a global movement happening the same day worldwide.

Space is intentionally small - capped at around 15 people - so the conversation stays real, not a room full of strangers making small talk.

About your host

Bethany Wright is the founder of The Not There Yet Project - a podcast, newsletter and community for people in the messy middle of adulthood, figuring life out rather than pretending they've arrived. Alongside NTYP, Bethany spends her day job managing communities across EMEA and APAC at Airbnb. Bethany has spent 15 years working across community and marketing working for leading brands including Yelp, Bridebook, Airbnb & Artemis.

"I've spent my whole career doing a bit of everything - community, content, podcasting, strategy - and for a long time I thought that meant I hadn't specialised in anything. Turns out it's the opposite: being a generalist is the skill. This event is for anyone else still figuring that out."

This meetup is run by Bethany Wright and organised by Generalist World – the community where generalists belong. You'll find everything you need to grow in your career – support, opportunity, lots of learning and great new connections.

Please note, you do not need to be a member of GW to join a meetup, everyone is welcome.
