Beitou Waterfalls & Hot Springs Trip ♨️
Hi TMG outdoor enthusiasts, Brandon here. I’ve got a fun hike planned for us for September. These trails are off the beaten path but contain something for everyone. Let’s enjoy the last of the hot weather by the water~
We’ll take the bus from Shipai MRT to the Houkan Old Trail and check out a one-lane rope suspension bridge over a rushing waterfall. There are also pools where you can dip your feet or whole body in this area. The whole place is highly scenic and apt for Forest Bathing.
We’ll then continue down through some farmers’ fields, alongside a Japanese-era canal, through the jungle, and down into the Longfenggu geothermal valley. There are some excellent IG-worthy shots of Taipei City, Taipei 101, and Guanyinshan in the distance along the way.
You’re welcome to catch the bus to the MRT from here. Or if you’re up for it, we’ll finish the day chillaxing outdoors enjoying the sunset at Emperor Hot Spring ♨️

📅 DATE: Sunday, September 13
⏰ TIME: 1:20 pm (approx. 4 hours total with the option for individuals to leave earlier)
📍 MEETING POINT & LOGISTICS
Shipai Station outside Exit 1
We’ll be walking from the meetup point towards the bus stop at 1:30pm to secure seats. The bus leaves at 1:40pm. It’s very punctual!
We will take Bus 小8 (S8) to Zhounei Bus Station and hike from there. The bus ride is about 15-20 minutes long. From the first finish point, Longfenggu, there are many buses to MRT Shipai station. Same goes for from Emperor: it’s the same road, same buses. It is also possible to share taxis.
NOTE: Weekends are often crowded on the buses. This is a smaller bus, and we are lining up at the start of its route, so we will likely have seats, but it is still possible that there will not be enough spots on the bus. If this is the case, it is up to you whether you wish to share a taxi to the Zhounei Bus Station meetup point or sit this one out. The FindTaxi app estimates the cost to be $250-300 NTD.
📝 Other Notes
The hike itself has a few uphill sections but is primarily downhill.
Emperor Hot Spring is a co-ed, open air spring set amidst the sulfur rock formations in the valley. They have a special type of water quality unique to their springs that is famous for its healing properties.
You’ll need to bring a proper swimsuit, towel, and swim cap to enter. They have showers and a changing area with hair dryers. Cost is $120 for entry as of late August.
