Since 1995, teenagers from right here have stood a 51-hour, non-stop reenactment of the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier — every Memorial Day weekend, at Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow. Come find out what it takes.
This is a hands-on afternoon. You won't be watching from a chair — you'll be in formation, holding a rifle, learning the movements.
What the afternoon looks like:
1:00 — Arrive, meet the team
1:15 — What Youth on Guard is and what the season demands
1:45 — Opening formation, the Sentinel's Creed
2:00 — Stretching and a light segment of our physical training
2:30 — Facing movements
3:00 — Rifle movements
3:30 — Marching
4:00 — Rifle movements
4:30 — Wrap up and questions
5:00 — Dismiss
Plan to stay the full afternoon. Each block builds on the one before it, and the last hour is where it comes together.
What it takes to be a Sentinel: two three-hour sessions a week, one Saturday a month, and over 200 hours of training before Memorial Day. The program costs nothing to join. What it asks for is your time and your commitment to getting it right.

Come prepared: clothes you can move in and athletic shoes. Bring water.
Parents, come with them. Instructors will be available all afternoon to answer questions about the schedule, the season, and what it asks of your family.
