Edmonton / Amiskwacîwâskahikan Liberating Structures User Group
This is a space for people who want to practice Liberating Structures together, regularly, in person.
Whether you've been using LS for years or just tried your first 1-2-4-All last week, this group is for you. The format is simple: we pick a structure (or two), we use it on a real question or challenge someone brings, and we debrief what happened. No presentations. No theory lectures. Just practice with other people who care about how groups work.
Liberating Structures are simple, repeatable facilitation methods that distribute participation so groups can think and do better, together.
They work in any context: team meetings, community gatherings, board sessions, workshops, classrooms, planning processes, conflict conversations.
The methods are easy to learn, but they get sharper with practice, which is why this group exists.
What to expect at the first meeting:
We'll do a couple of structures together using real challenges that people in the room are working on.
We'll talk about what we noticed.
We'll also figure out who would like to practice at the next user group meeting.
Who this is for:
Anyone who works with groups of humans and wants to learn simple effective ways to distribute participation.
Leaders, facilitators, educators, nonprofit staff, community organizers, consultants, designers, managers, students. No LS experience required.
Bring yourself, a challenge you're working on, and curiosity about what happens when you give a group a structure that distributes participation and control.
Contribution within capacity: come for free, or make a small donation. Any donated amounts go towards any hosting overhead associated with this or future events (room bookings, snacks, materials, etc.).
