A forest cleans our air, a wetland holds back floods, a glacier stores the water millions of people drink. On a balance sheet, none of it is worth anything until it is destroyed. We are spending nature's capital without ever counting it.
This is an evening about value, trust and time, seen through the eyes of Mattias Klum, who has spent three decades in conversation with the living world. What beauty can do that data alone cannot. Why the language of the climate crisis (carbon, ESG, impact) has failed to move the capital and the will that restoration needs.
The evening ends with an exclusive sneak peek at Mattias's upcoming projects, including The Lighthouse Project: an epic discovery of the unique biodiversity that Aotearoa New Zealand's land, sea and ice hold. What restoring nature on a large scale looks like when science, culture and place come together. Why telling their story could drive a global restoration movement, and progress on moving Nature itself onto our balance sheets.

Dr. Mattias Klum
Mattias Klum's work has moved beyond nature photography into an artistic language of photography, film and immersive installation. It explores the relationship between people and the living world. He uses beauty, complexity and emotion not simply to document places but to create new ways of seeing and feeling them. He makes this work alongside scientists including Johan Rockström and Jane Goodall, and it has been shown in museums and galleries worldwide, from a 2020 retrospective at Fotografiska to COP15 and the Clinton Global Initiative.
He has contributed 13 cover stories to National Geographic since 1997, and his work has appeared in Vogue, Stern, Der Spiegel, The New York Times and Geo. He holds an honorary doctorate in natural sciences from Stockholm University, is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, and is an ambassador for WWF, the Charles Darwin Foundation & The Goulandris Museum.
