About Event

This discussion would be a private gathering designed to foster high-level dialogue and genuine connections in the area of biotech leadership. We hope that such discussions will provide founders & CEOs of biotech companies an opportunity to engage directly with pioneers in the field, and learn from their experience bringing a drug candidate through a successful development path to the clinic. Our second session will be an in-depth dialogue with Dr. John Maraganore, moderated by Professor William Chin. Bios of John and Bill below:

About John Maraganore

Dr. John Maraganore served as the founding CEO and a Director of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals from 2002 to 2021, where he led the creation of RNAi therapeutics as a whole new class of medicines. During the course of building a biotech into a pharma company, John raised over 7.5B in capital, creating over 25B in market capitalization. Today, six RNAi therapeutic medicines from Alnylam have been approved by global regulatory authorities, bringing new hope to patients around the world.  Prior to Alnylam, John held leadership roles at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and Biogen, Inc. where he invented and led the discovery and development of ANGIOMAX® (bivalirudin) for injection. John is currently a partner or advisor of a number of leading investment firms, and a number of publicly traded and privately held biopharmaceutical companies. Dr. Maraganore received his B.A., M.S. and Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Chicago.

About Bill Chin

Dr. William (Bill) Chin is the Bertarelli Professor of Translational Medical Science and Professor of Medicine Emeritus at Harvard Medical School. He previously served as Executive Vice President for Science and Regulatory Advocacy and Chief Medical Officer at PhRMA, leading advocacy efforts with the FDA and NIH. Before PhRMA, he was Executive Dean for Research at HMS and Senior Vice President for Discovery Research and Clinical Investigation at Eli Lilly, overseeing over 100 drug candidates. A Harvard-trained endocrinologist, Dr. Chin has a distinguished 25-year career at HMS, including roles as Chief of the Genetics Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator. He has advised Singapore for over 40 years on developing its biotechnology innovation ecosystem, serving as an active Board Member of A-STAR. In 2023, he received honorary Singapore citizenship for these contributions. Dr. Chin earned his A.B. from Columbia University and M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and has received numerous awards for research, mentorship, and leadership.
