Method Call: Field Building in the Global South

​Field building has been described in the Democracy R&D network as “increasing awareness, capacity, funding, and demand for public deliberation”.  This means actors who engage with the core idea, venture into conducting or supporting deliberations, and are involved in reflection and research. This has been done organically as well as systematically.

​The method call aims to hear from such actors about the strategy, impact, challenges and opportunities for field building, especially in the Global South. It will also highlight research and South-South/ South-North/ North-South learning needs.

​Over the last few years, there has been increasing interest in innovative practice and research about public deliberations and scaling in the Global South. In 2027, for the first time, the Democracy R&D Global Conference will take place in the Global South. The ideas from the method call would help to shape ideas for further discussion in the conference.
