About Event

Responsible Agency in AI explores how artificial intelligence systems can be designed, deployed, and governed in ways that align with human values, accountability, and societal well-being. The discussion examines the roles and responsibilities of developers, organizations, policymakers, and users in ensuring AI systems act transparently, fairly, and ethically. It also addresses the challenges of balancing innovation with oversight as AI systems become increasingly autonomous and influential in decision-making.

This talk traces different models of computational agency that have been explored over the years, and presents the responsibility dilemma is agentic interactions. We then look into different objective paradigms of responsible agency, like utilitarianism, deontics, virtue, etc. We then ask whether responsibility can be more intrinsic, and be an integral part of how an agent makes its autonomous decisions. Towards this end, we also present our approach called "Computational Transcendence" addressing this question.
