About Event

You have the qualifications. You have sent the applications. Yet the replies are not coming. Very often, the reason lies in what happens to your CV before any recruiter reads it.

Most large employers manage applications through an Applicant Tracking System (ATS), software that stores, sorts and searches every CV it receives. If the system cannot read your CV properly, or cannot match it to the role, recruiters searching for someone with your skills may never see your name.

Session 1 of the Free Career Masterclass uncovered the six gaps that stop qualified people from getting hired. Session 2 takes on the first of those gaps, your CV, which is also the fastest to fix.

In one practical hour, HR leader Onajevwe Akakabota will show you how applications are really screened, what the system needs from your CV, and how to present your experience so you are found, read and shortlisted.

What you will learn

1. What really happens after you click Submit

How applicant tracking systems actually work, why the widely shared claim that “75% of CVs are rejected by robots” is a myth, and what actually screens candidates out.

2. The 5 checks that decide whether the system can read your CV

• File format: the formats that read cleanly, and why scanned or heavily designed CVs can arrive blank or scrambled.

• Layout: how columns, tables, text boxes, icons and skill bars can jumble your details, even in templates labelled “ATS-friendly”.

• Section headings: the standard headings the system looks for, and the creative ones it can miss.

• Contact details: where to place them so they are not lost.

• Dates and job titles: the formats that keep your career history clear and in order.

3. The words recruiters search for, and where to place them

How to read a job advert the way a recruiter does, pick out the words that matter, and place them in your CV so they count, without stuffing your CV with them.

4. Live CV makeovers

Real CVs from registered attendees, reviewed and improved on screen with names and contact details hidden. You will see every check applied, before and after.

5. Live Q&A

Bring your questions about your own CV and applications.

Who should attend

• Graduates and NYSC members preparing for their first role

• Job seekers who apply consistently but rarely hear back

• Professionals planning their next move, whether local, international or remote

• Career changers whose CV still tells the story of their previous role

What you will walk away with

• A clear understanding of why your CV may not be getting through, and how to fix it

• Practical improvements you can make to your CV the same evening

• The 5-check list, shared on Onajevwe’s WhatsApp channel after the session

• A Certificate of Participation for everyone who attends live

Get your CV reviewed live

Would you like your CV reviewed during the session? When you register, share a link to your CV (a Google Drive link set to “Anyone with the link”) by Wednesday 4 November. A small number of CVs will be selected for live makeovers, with names and contact details hidden. If yours is not selected, every fix will still apply to your CV.

How to prepare

• Have your CV open during the session, ideally on a laptop.

• Bring one job advert you would genuinely like to apply for. You will test your CV against it as we go.
