About Event

The female and s*xual health sector is growing fast, but breaking into it as a freelancer can feel overwhelming, unclear, or intimidating. If you’ve ever wondered how to start working with organisations in this space, what skills are actually needed, or what kinds of projects exist, this session is for you.

Join us for an honest and practical Q&A with Emma Ahlert, founder of Elsie, a global network for freelancers working specifically in female and sexual health. Emma has supported countless freelancers entering this space and understands both the opportunities and the nuances involved.

This conversation will focus on the realities of doing freelance work in female and s*xual health - the sensitivity of the topics and censorship, the importance of ethical communication, and how to work with organisations tackling everything from menstrual equity to reproductive rights, fertility, menopause, wellbeing, and beyond.

In this session, we’ll talk about:

• How to start freelancing in the female & s*xual health sector
• What types of organisations hire freelancers (and what they look for)
• Skills that are especially in demand in this field
• How to navigate sensitive topics with care and confidence
• Common challenges freelancers face in this space
• How to position yourself and find aligned opportunities
• What meaningful, ethical impact looks like in women’s and s*xual health
…and we’ll open the floor for anything you’d like to ask Emma directly!

About Emma & Elsie

Emma is the founder of Elsie, a global network created to make freelancing in the female and s*xual health space easier, more transparent, and more connected.

Before launching Elsie, Emma co-founded Back Off Scotland, a grassroots campaign that successfully pushed for anti-harassment safe access zones around abortion clinics - work that contributed to a change in Scottish law.

She has also led content strategy for organisations across contraception, fertility, bladder care, menopause, period care, s*xual wellness, and more - giving her a deep understanding of the challenges, sensitivities, and opportunities within this sector.

Through Elsie, Emma supports freelancers by improving pay transparency, increasing visibility, and offering access to curated jobs, gigs, and industry events, helping more people contribute meaningfully to female and s*xual health work.
