​Investment in health at home solutions has meaningfully accelerated in response to the pandemic, reaching $4.7B in 2021 spanning tech-enabled at-home senior primary care, hospital at home, on-demand in-home urgent care, home-based palliative and hospice care to geriatric house call services. Homebound older adults with complex health needs and those with serious or advanced illness are a high needs, high cost population who benefit tremendously from these services. They allow older adults to age in place, reduce trips to the hospital, reduce wait times, decrease unnecessary lab orders or medical imaging, increase access to hard-to-reach rural, low-income, or other marginalized groups, and lead to overall lower total costs of care and increased patient and caregiver satisfaction.
