KQ Private View | Canticle of the Bird, at the Aga Khan Centre Gallery
Join us for a private view of our latest exhibition, Canticle of the Bird. Canticle of the Bird is a mixed-media exhibition inspired by Farid ud-Din Attar’s Sufi poem The Conference of the Birds.
Artists from the UK and beyond reinterpret the poem’s themes of journey, transformation and spiritual awakening through painting, animation, textiles, ceramics, and sound.
The exhibition mirrors the poem’s seven symbolic valleys, with each gallery wall dedicated to one stage of the birds’ quest for truth. Alongside its spiritual narrative, the show also reflects on urgent ecological issues, including the decline of the UK’s songbirds.
Created in partnership with the Kings Foundation School of Traditional Arts, Royal School of Needlework, Drawing for the Planet, Songbird Survival, Kings Cross Academy and Wendy Morrison Design.
The exhibition features contributions from artists associated with The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, The Royal School of Needlework, and other contemporary makers from the UK and beyond. Participating artists include Farkhondeh Ahmadzadeh, Veeda Ahmed, Amaan Khalid Aslam, Delfina Bottesini, Samantha Buckley, Jung Byun, Mike Collier, Antje Damm, Aurélie Gérardin, Jenni Hawkins, Richard Henry, Anne Kelly, Amber Khokhar, Corina Lozovan, Annabelle Lucilla, Jane Lee McCracken, Michaela McMillan, Halleh Mortazavi, Sobia Naz, Kate Pankhurst, Amaranta Peña, Olga Prinku, Louise Saxton, Geoff Sample, Sana Sanjrani, Sangeeta Singh, Kat Thomas, Stephen Turner, Xia Xia, Karim Wadhwani and Karen Williams.
