About Event

Join us for a conversation about a topic no one talks about, but everyone should— The intersection of breastfeeding & mental health.

In partnership with The Motherhood Center, NYC's Leading Maternal Mental Health Treatment Center, this session will explore the connection between breastfeeding and maternal mental health, including perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs).

We’ll discuss how feeding experiences, whether they go as planned or not, can impact how you feel emotionally, and how your mental health can also affect feeding.

We’ll touch on the pressure and expectations many moms face during this time, and how those pressures can make an already challenging transition feel even harder.

Most importantly, this is a space to help you feel supported, informed, and reminded that there’s no one “right” way. Your well-being matters just as much as your baby’s.

🦸‍♀️ About our Guest Expert:

Sarah Rieber- Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant

Sarah’s career in nursing led her to a specialization as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in 2004. It was this experience working in postpartum, lactation, and in obstetric and gynecology offices that stirred in her a passion for and connection to perinatal mental health. She received her Doctorate from Seton Hall University and a post-doctorate certification in psychiatric mental health nursing from Wilkes University. Sarah has spent the last thirty years working for Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in obstetrics and gynecology, and spent the last three and a half years at the Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder Center (PMAD) at Barnabas.
