Range Office Hours
Come join us for an introduction to handguns that includes at least 20 minutes of time on the range. First, you'll receive a quick 30 minute safety and marksmanship lesson in the classroom. Afterwards you'll move on to the range and have an opportunity to fire a real firearm under the supervision of a qualified firearms instructor.
On the range, each instructor will only be working with two people at once so you will receive a significant amount of individual instruction. You may be paired with another student if you register individually. If you have a group of three that would all like to work with the same instructor on the range, please reach out via [email protected] and we may be able to accommodate you.
You do not need a FOID card for this class, but you will need to verify that you are not prohibited from possessing firearms in Illinois. There are no extra fees at the range for participating in this event. Handguns and ammunition will be provided for you.
Please review our participant waiver as you will need to sign this document before being allowed to attend.
On the day of event, please remember:
Wear closed toed shoes and a top with a high tight neckline (to avoid brass casings)
Bring hearing and eye protection or plan to rent or purchase them at the range
Bring your unexpired FOID card and/or Illinois ID
Fill out the shooting range waiver in advance: Maxon Range Waiver
The shooting range is Maxon Shooter's Supplies in Des Plaines, IL near O'Hare Airport. If you are driving from downtown please allow at least an hour for traffic. If you are taking public transit, I recommend taking the CTA Blue Line to Rosemont or the UP-NW Metra to Des Plaines and then taking an Uber/Lyft from there. Rideshare prices are typically less than $20 from those stations but can be over $50 if you take one all the way from downtown.
