About Event

More Than Just A Lunch Conversation.

Imagine a book talk meets a guided conversation salon, all set in a beautiful art gallery. A curated group of people, fresh perspectives, meaningful connections, and delicious food for thought and body.

For our first Deep Talks gathering in this special format, we'll explore a question many of us face in our own lives:

How do we stay friends with people who think and vote differently from us?

Political disagreements increasingly divide friendships, families, and communities. Conversations turn into arguments, certain topics become off-limits, and walking away can feel easier than staying connected.

But this question reaches far beyond our personal relationships.

Roger Berkowitz, Professor at Bard College in New York, founder of the Hannah Arendt Center, and author of A World We Share: Hannah Arendt and the Power of Friendship in a Broken World, invites us to consider a provocative idea: the crisis of democracy is also a crisis of friendship.

Drawing on Hannah Arendt's thinking, we'll explore what it takes to share a world with people whose beliefs and values differ from our own.

Rather than simply listening to ideas, you'll have the opportunity to put them into practice.

What to Expect

✦ A Thought-Provoking Keynote with Roger Berkowitz

Drawing on Hannah Arendt's thinking and his new book, Roger will explore why friendship matters not only in our personal lives, but also for democracy itself.

✦ Two Rounds of Guided Conversations

Through carefully curated questions and small-group conversations, we'll explore our experiences of disagreement, the boundaries of friendship, and how to stay connected without compromising our values.

✦ Fresh Perspectives to Take Home

Share what surprised you, challenged your assumptions, or might change the way you approach difficult conversations.

✦ Connect Over a Delicious Lunch

Enjoy a delicious selection of freshly prepared bagels, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, refreshing drinks, and great company. Continue the conversations and make new connections.

✦ An Exclusive Signed Book

Get your hands on Roger's new book, A World We Share, before its European release in January! Just 15 signed copies are available with our €60 Supporter tickets.

Who Is This For?

For anyone who wants to navigate disagreements without losing meaningful relationships, stay true to their values while remaining open to others, and explore what friendship can teach us about living together in a divided world.

Whether you're drawn to philosophy, democracy, human connection, or simply a great conversation, you're welcome.

A Special Setting

We'll gather at Serpen Gallery, a beautiful space in the heart of Berlin-Mitte dedicated to Ukrainian contemporary art. Surrounded by artworks that invite us to see the world differently, we'll make room for conversations that rarely happen by accident.
