Is the world becoming more gender equal? An interactive data deep dive
Note to get in the building - if there's not someone there to greet you - use the call box to the left of the door. Use the search box to find "3" - you'll see one entry. Press the call box and the door will unlock. Take the elevator to the third floor.
Did you know that nearly three-quarters of ALL the SDG targets are reliant on gender equality? Do you wonder if the world is becoming more gender equal? Or how your country compares on gender equality to other countries? Or whether the world is making progress on the gender equality issues you care most about?
The Equal Measures 2030 coalition has just released the 2024 SDG Gender Index data. The Index provides a wealth of data across 139 countries, 56 key gender equality issues across 14 of the 17 SDGs, and data from 2015, 2019, 2022 plus forecasts to 2030. In this interactive session, we will get to ‘play’ with the new data, explore the dataset to uncover new facts and trends, and help show how this tool can support you in your work! You’ll be able to explore the interactive data visualisations, powered by Tableau and built by The Information Lab, meet the EM2030 experts behind the Index, hear from EM2030 coalition members about how they use the Index tool – alongside other gender data – to drive change for gender equality in their countries and regions, and engage in discussions about what gender data is still missing and how we can collectively call for those gaps to be filled.
The Index measures progress in 139 countries (covering 96% of the world's girls and women) and tracks 56 gender equality issues, providing a snapshot of where the world stands, tracking trends since 2015, and looking ahead to 2030. You can find the global report, an overview of global-level findings, country profiles, data visualizations to explore, and Frequently-Asked Questions on our website, all available in English, French, and Spanish.
