In the midst of a busy London life, give yourself two hours to slow down.
Join Ink Harmony Studio × MINCHA for an intimate Chinese Calligraphy & Wellbeing Workshop near Old Street — an afternoon of brush and ink, Chinese culture, tea, conversation and meaningful connection.
No previous experience is required. Complete beginners are very welcome, and you do not need to know Chinese. All materials are provided, and you will be guided step by step to create your own calligraphy artwork to take home.
There is no pressure to make something “perfect”. Instead, we invite you to enjoy the movement of the brush, become absorbed in the act of writing, and experience the sense of calm and focus that calligraphy can bring.
This Session's Theme | White Dew · 白露
This session takes inspiration from Bailu (白露), or White Dew, one of the traditional Chinese solar terms, and the celebrated poem Jianjia (蒹葭) from the ancient Chinese classic The Book of Songs (Shijing /《诗经》):
蒹葭苍苍，白露为霜。
所谓伊人，在水一方。
Reeds grow green and lush;
white dew turns to frost.
The one I long for
is on the far side of the water.
The poem evokes the feeling of seeking something beautiful yet just beyond reach. The mysterious “伊人” — the person one longs for — can be read not only as a beloved person, but more broadly as something beautiful we continue to seek: an ideal, a longing, or perhaps a sense of inner peace.
For our workshop, this ancient imagery of reeds, dew and water becomes an invitation to slow down and reflect.
Perhaps, amid a busy life, the thing we are searching for is simply a little more stillness.
Through brush and ink, we will explore the characters, imagery and cultural meaning of the poem — and discover how the physical act of writing can become a moment of focus, relaxation and reconnection with ourselves.
