​Garment Sewing 101: Mini/Maxi Wrap Skirt

​From how to take your measurements, learning to read a pattern to the finished garment, learn how to make your own mini or maxi wrap skirt! This is a beginner friendly workshop. Perfect for folx who have completed the Learn to Sew class, Basic T Garment Sewing 101 class or have made some basic items like a tote, zipper pouches, etc. This workshop is not just for sewing, it’s also about community building. During the class will be time to get to know one another and share about our creative process!

​The class will cover sewing darts, lengthening and shortening pattern pieces and making bias tape. This project can be made for warmer or cooler months in mini or maxi options, think choose your own adventure!

​Two Sessions:

• ​October 3rd 11:30 am to 1 pm (90 minutes)

​Session 1 includes guidance on taking measurements, sizing, cutting paper pattern pieces, fabric choice, sourcing and prep. Time allows for some pattern assembly but it is not the focus of the session, please arrive with the pattern printed and assembled or printed by the copyshop. Sewing machine is not needed in part 1.

​Homework between sessions: Sourcing and preparing fabric

• ​October 24th 11:30 am to 3:30 pm (4 hours)

​Session 2 is sewing and step by step guidance in following the pattern with additional tips, tricks and considerations. Sewing machine in good working order with necessary parts is required for session 2.

​Supplies

​Needed by first session:

• ​Measuring tape

• ​Printed and assembled pattern

  • ​If want to print large scale copy shop pattern, Homesewn or Blackbird Fabrics offers print to ship options.

  • ​If printing at home, ​please have your paper pattern templates printed out at 100% scale and the pattern pieces taped together per the instructions.

​Needed by second session:

• ​Sewing Machine - in good working order with necessary parts (power cord, foot pedal (if applicable) bobbin & presser foot)

• ​Buttonhole presser foot (not necessary but a helpful tool)

• ​Fabric scissors

• ​Small scissors or snips

• ​Pins

• ​Fabric (guidance on type will be given in first session)

• ​Coordinating Thread and prepared bobbin

• ​New sewing machine needle appropriate for fabric weight (guidance will be given during first session)

• ​Hem gauge

• ​Bias tape maker (not necessary but helpful tool)
