Golden Hour Highs: Saint Mark's Summit
Get ready to stand on the edge of the world! This Saturday, we are tackling the jaw-dropping Saint Mark's Summit, a stunning chunk of the famous Howe Sound Crest Trail.
Winding through ancient sub-alpine forests, navigating wooden bridges, and pushing up root-packed mountain paths, this hike leads directly to dramatic rock bluffs projecting high above the ocean. Standing on the summit, you’ll get an unobstructed, sweeping panoramic view looking straight down over the islands of Howe Sound, the rugged Sunshine Coast, and the deep blue waters of the strait. It is one of the most iconic, camera-ready views in all of West Vancouver.
About the Event
Location: Cypress Mountain Resort (West Vancouver, BC)
Date: This Saturday, July 18th, 2026
Meet-up Time: 7AM Sharp at Cypress Mountain downhill ski area parking lot (We need to start early to beat the heavy weekend crowds and secure prime parking!)
Hike Statistics
Distance: 11 km out-and-back.
Elevation Gain: 460 meters.
Duration: 4 to 5 hours of total moving time.
Difficulty: Intermediate. While the elevation gain is mostly moderate, the trail is notoriously packed with exposed tree roots, rocky mud pools, and a steep final push to the rocky bluffs.
The Game Plan
The Climb: Starting from Cypress, we’ll follow the gravel path as it quickly transitions into the dense forest of the Howe Sound Crest Trail. The trail climbs steadily, crossing several picturesque mountain streams.
The Root Scramble: The final third of the hike is a classic BC grind. We will be stepping carefully over a massive network of thick, slippery tree roots and navigating tight single-track paths.
Summit Hangout: At the top, we’ll unpack our lunches, catch our breath, and capture some epic content over the sheer cliff faces looking out at the sound before heading back down.
Mandatory Gear & Prep
Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots or trail runners with excellent technical tread are strictly mandatory. The muddy patches and endless wet tree roots require serious grip.
Food & Hydration: Bring a full lunch, plenty of high-energy trail snacks, and at least 2L of water.
Layers & Sun Care: Bring a windproof layer or light jacket (it can be cold and windy on the exposed rock summit), sunscreen, and bug spray.
Age Limit: This event is strictly for participants aged 19+.
Waiver: A signed liability waiver is mandatory for everyone before hitting the trailhead.
📸 Social Media & Content: By registering for this event, you're giving the crew permission to use any photos and videos captured during the day for our social media pages and vlogs. If you’re camera-shy, just let me know before we head out!
Important Peer-Group Notice
Please note that this is an informal outing of peers. I am participating for my own recreation and enjoyment; I am not a professional mountain guide, first responder, or wilderness instructor. You are entirely and solely responsible for your own safety, physical preparation, and careful footing on the wet roots and rocks at all times.
