Driverless vehicles are beginning to reach UK roads, but many questions about their wider impact remain unanswered. What do we need to understand now to prepare for their use at scale?
About the Research Roadmap
Our Research Roadmap sets out the unanswered questions that will shape the impact of autonomous vehicles across four areas:
Economics and productivity
Social change
Job displacement
Security and geopolitics
These include how driverless transport could change vehicle ownership, what a fair transition means for people whose jobs involve driving, whether new services will improve independence for disabled and older people, and how the UK should approach dependence on overseas technology.
Drawing on perspectives from across transport, government, industry, academia and civil society, the Roadmap aims to help researchers, funders and decision-makers identify important gaps in the evidence and focus attention on the questions that most need answering.
About the evening
The launch will be an opportunity to explore the Roadmap, discuss the questions it raises and meet others working on the future of driverless transport.
We welcome people developing and deploying autonomous vehicles, as well as policymakers, researchers, funders and those considering what these changes will mean for their organisations and communities.
