Folklore Brand Bootcamp
Hey Folks – welcome back to Campfire for the new year 🔥
Our first bootcamp for 2023 is all things brand: comms, PR, marketing and brand strategy.
This will be fully virtual and hosted on Butter from 9am - 11am AEST on Thursday the 16th March (no login or account necessary).
As always, there will be plenty of open Q&A, time for discussion and opportunity to get to know other founders and operators within the Folklore portfolio, so please bring your burning questions. If you can't attend all the sessions, please feel free to jump in and out as you need!
What will the morning look like?
9am - 9.45am: Brand Strategy with Joanna Lilley: Principal at Accompany Group
In this session, Jo will break down the jargon around brand; what do we mean by brand strategy, what makes a successful brand and what components should you be thinking about as your business evolves. She will unpack why building a strong strategic foundation is especially important for start-ups and founder-led businesses, and provide some practical tools to get you thinking.
Jo’s entire career has been dedicated to building brands through deep strategy, effective comms and impactful design; working with businesses from a wide range of industry sectors and at varying scales. She has worked alongside some of the country’s biggest brands from corporates like Qantas; leading the visual evolution in 2016 and working with the senior leadership team to develop the Group Purpose, Caltex; spending seven years on the brand and business strategy and ultimately the transition over to Ampol, and Toyota; adapting and implementing the global brand platform for the Australian market.
She has also had stints running the Woolworths and Westfield advertising accounts as well as working with start-ups and scale-ups such as Prezzee, Skyfii and Autonomy. Coming with a varied background across specialist brand consultancy, fully integrated advertising and high-volume retail, Jo has a unique perspective on the power of brand and why setting a strong strategic foundation is the key to success, whatever stage your business is at.
9.45am - 10.30am: Scaling Auror Globally with Marcus Hoefliger: Head of Marketing at Auror
Marcus leads the marketing team at Auror and has helped grow it from a predominantly New Zealand-based business, to now operating with major retailers and police agencies across Australia, US, Canada, and the UK. During that time the marketing team has gone from 0.5 to 10+ FTE. In this session, he'll cover what enabled our marketing success going from start up, to now scaling the business globally.
10.30am - 11am: Startup Media with Simon Thomsen: Editor of Startup Daily
For our final session of the day, we'll be joined by Simon Thomsen; Editor of Startup Daily and host of the Startup Daily show on the business streaming service ausbiz.com.au. Simon was previously Associate Editor of Business Insider Australia and before that a full-time restaurant critic, Editor of The Good Food Guide, and a newspaper proprietor. He is also an investor in early stage startups. Simon joins us for an AMA, so bring your curly questions about PR announcements, pitching your startup story, interview tips and media dos and don'ts to keep in mind!
Spread the word with any brand-curious colleagues, and we hope to see you on the 16th March 👋
