About Event

The European Union spends more on science funding each year than America’s National Science Foundation. But scientific output in Europe still trails the US and, increasingly, China. What can it do to make its money go further? What institutions does it need? How can it turn basic science into commerce and prosperity?

Join Works in Progress for an evening of lightning talks about science in Europe, followed by drinks and light food.

  • Saloni Dattani on speeding up medical discoveries. Saloni is an editor at Works in Progress.

  • Sam Bogerd on making Europe's funding go further. Sam leads the Technology and State Capacity incubator at CFG.

  • Sam Enright on the professor's privilege. Sam Enright is the Innovation Policy Lead at Progress Ireland.

  • Pieter Garicano on the point of universities. Pieter is the author of the blog Silicon Continent.

  • Dominik Hermle on Germany's innovation paradox. Dominik is an analyst at SPRIND, the German ARPA.

Works in Progress is a magazine of new and underrated ideas to improve the world. Subscribe to receive a copy every two months.
