About Event

Please join us for a delightful afternoon of sketching on the Lassonde Art Trail at Biidaasige Park. With guidance from art instructor, Alan Li, you’ll learn how to depict native plants and local wildlife onto the pages of your sketchbook.

Public art installations along the trail will inspire and bring out your inner Picasso!

This program is senior-friendly. Beginners are welcome. As this is an outdoor program, we recommend dressing appropriately for the weather. Please be aware that the trees in the park system are not yet mature, so there is little shade. Participants are expected to bring their own materials.

The following art supplies are recommended:

  • Portable folding chair or stool

  • Mix media sketchbook (roughly 6x9 inches)

  • Mechanical pencil 0.5mm

  • Black ballpoint pen or 0.5mm black fine liner pen

  • Optional – an assortment of colour pencils

  • Optional – small watercolour paint kit

  • Optional – small pair of binoculars

Artist and educator Alan Li, uses pencils and paint to document the wonders of the natural world. Alan’s mission is to build connections to nature through arts-based education. Since 2015, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art workshops. Alan currently teaches sketching, drawing and printmaking at the High Park Nature Centre, Toronto Botanical Garden and Gwartzman’s Art Supplies.
