Renewable fuels: Driving the road for decarbonisation?
This stakeholder dialogue explores the role of renewable fuels as a facilitator for decarbonising the whole of road transport while providing essential flexibility for manufacturers to meet both short and long-term CO2 targets. Current flexibilities provided by the European Commission remain too narrow to be effective. The rationale for a broader approach includes compliance integration, legal implementation, and technological diversity. By leveraging the existing fleet and infrastructure, renewable fuels act as a pragmatic bridge that ensures environmental targets are met without sacrificing industrial viability.
