Zig Day Portland #3: Spring Cleaning
For our May 9th event, if you're looking for ideas, we'll have a theme for you: spring cleaning!
Find and dust off an old project and upgrade it to the latest version of Zig. Do a code style pass, fix that bug you've been meaning to tackle, or write some documentation.
The best thing we can do for Zig is contribute to its community. You could look for an open source Zig library that needs some love, and contribute to it. Upgrade someone else's code to use Zig 0.16's new std.Io interface.
Background
The primary goal of Zig Day Portland is to make friends, collaborate with each other, and hone our software (and hardware!) engineering skills. Generally, that means working in pairs or groups to write some code and share it at the end of the day.
Learning is the key: feel free to experiment on your own, asking around when in doubt; or sit down with someone else and contribute to an existing Zig project.
There are no constraints for what to do during the Zig Day. If you’re looking for inspiration, try to come up with ideas to strengthen our local community. Volunteer organizations and nonprofits often can use all the help they can get, including in our field of software.
This event is open to the public.
What to expect
A typical Zig Day in Portland runs as follows (times are approximate and will be updated once we secure a venue):
11:00 - 11:30: gathering and chit-chat
11:30 - 12:00: explain projects, form groups, setup workstations
12:00 - 05:30: work on stuff together
05:30 - 06:00: show others what you built and what you learned
Since we're meeting at a restaurant that can serve us food where we're working, you will be able to just take a break and order lunch whenever you're hungry.
