About Event

Join us at the Africa Climate Summit 2025 (ACS-2) for a transformative high-level side event, where public, private, and community leaders unite to unlock Africa's immense potential in carbon markets. Moving beyond fragmented projects, this session embraces a landscape approach to build high-integrity carbon market systems that drive climate action, foster sustainable development, and regenerate nature—positioning carbon as a powerful development asset.

Framed around three pillars—demand (leveraging drivers like Article 6, CORSIA, and voluntary commitments), supply (enhancing project pipelines, regulatory readiness, and MRV systems), and enablers (unlocking innovative financing, blended instruments, and equitable benefit-sharing)—the session will spotlight African leadership in embedding transparency, fairness, and community ownership into carbon markets.

Objective: Linking supply, policy, and demand to drive high-integrity carbon markets that deliver climate and development benefits for Africa.

Expected Outcomes:

  • A continental vision for inclusive, high-integrity carbon markets that align climate action with sustainable development.

  • Policy and regulatory commitments to strengthen market readiness, benefit-sharing frameworks, and national carbon market infrastructure.

  • Mobilisation pathways for international and domestic capital through innovative financing structures, empowering local project developers.

  • Replication of successful community-led carbon project models that prioritise biodiversity protection and scalable nature-based solutions.

  • Strengthened public-private-community partnerships, ensuring equitable access to carbon market benefits for Indigenous Peoples, women, and youth.

  • Actionable recommendations to inform the ACS-2 Addis Declaration and shape Africa’s COP30 strategy on carbon finance.
