AI Curious: What Does AI Know About You?
You've probably told a chatbot things you'd never post online: a health worry, a fight with your partner, your salary, or the business idea you haven't told anyone about yet. It feels like a private conversation. On most free platforms, it isn't.
This is a candid, practical session about where your information goes once you hand it over, and what you can do about it. We'll work through the questions people actually ask:
"If it's free, am I the product?" What happens to your chats on free AI tools, including whether anyone at the company can read them, whether they train the next model, and how long they're kept.
"How does my phone know that?" What AI companies and data brokers actually collect about you, from location history to shopping habits, and how it gets pieced together into a profile you've never seen.
"Okay, so what do I do?" You'll get privacy-minded alternatives for AI chat and search, learn the settings worth changing today (most take under a minute), and leave with a simple rule for what's safe to type into a chatbot.
"My data's stored in Canada, so it's safe, right?" Not necessarily. Whether you're running a nonprofit, a small business, or just keeping family photos in the cloud, we'll look at why a US-owned company can be compelled to hand over your data under the US CLOUD Act, even when the servers sit in Toronto. We'll also cover what Canadian options exist.
No technical background required. Whether you're worried, curious, or somewhere in between, this is your invitation to be part of a conversation that affects all of us.
