Community Indigo Vat
Come get your hands blue with us! Join ReVillage and local indigo whiz Emily Linders for a morning of color and creativity at Graton Town Square.
We'll be working with a traditional indigo vat, learning how this natural dye works and experimenting with folds, twists, and ties to create beautiful patterns on fabric. Emily will guide us through the process, from understanding the ingredients and chemistry of the vat to dipping our textiles and watching them transform from green to deep, beautiful blue as they meet the air.
There's something magical about indigo: no two pieces turn out quite alike, and watching the color come alive never gets old.
Saturday, November 14 | 10 AM–2 PM
Where: Graton Town Square (9155 Graton Rd)
Cost: $50 per person
No experience necessary, just curiosity and a willingness to get a little blue!
We're excited to bring more hands-on art, traditional crafts, and shared skill-building to the Town Square. All proceeds beyond the cost of hosting this workshop will support ReVillage to host more community gatherings. Here's to making beautiful things together!
Details/What to bring:
Folks are welcome to dye more than one item if time and space allots. Plan on at least one, and then after everyone has dipped, there may be room for more.
Emily will be bringing a selection of natural fiber clothing blanks available to purchase onsite if you'd prefer - flowy pants, cotton tops, etc. Cotton bandanas will also be available for $6.
Bring cash! Service can be spotty at the square so Venmo may not work.
If you have your own piece to dye (fun!), bring one natural-fiber item - cotton, linen, and silk are wonderful options. Think bandanas, shirts, scarves, or a piece of fabric you've been saving for something special.
Item should be the size of a T-shirt or less. No bedsheets or large swaths of fabric.
Ideally, items you bring are scoured, as soap residues can sometimes alter the ph of the vat. To scour, use a bit of soda ash or a gentle soap and simmer your fabric in hot water to remove residues and oils.
You can take your items home same day, so bring a bag in case they don’t have enough time to dry.
Registration & Weather Policy:
This workshop requires a minimum of 14 attendees by November 7th to proceed, with space for up to 20 participants. If we don't reach the minimum, all tickets will be fully refunded. This is an outdoor, weather-dependent event. If it rains, we'll reschedule and offer refunds to anyone unable to attend the new date.
Your ticket includes you in future communications about fun events from hosting nonprofit ReVillage.
