About the Event

Join us for a Q&A conversation with two physicians dedicated to making medication decisions safer and more transparent for pregnancy planning, conception, and overall women's health. Dr. Mark Horowitz, psychiatrist, researcher, and co-founder of Outro Health, will sit down with Dr. Adam Urato, Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist, to answer your questions about antidepressants, other medications, and family planning.

This is not a lecture. It’s an interactive opportunity to submit your questions in advance and contribute to a discussion on the issues that matter most to women, partners, caregivers, and clinicians. Whether you’re currently taking medication, considering tapering, or supporting someone through these decisions, this session is designed to give you practical, thoughtful insights.

Together, they’ll address:

  • Common questions women have about antidepressants and other medications when planning pregnancy

  • What the science says about medication exposure and withdrawal in the perinatal period

  • Approaches to tapering that prioritize safety for both parent and baby

  • The importance of informed consent, shared decision-making, and patient-centered care

  • How clinicians and patients can collaborate to balance mental health and pregnancy goals

Who Is This For?

  • Anyone currently taking or considering tapering off psychiatric medications

  • Clinicians seeking to understand real-world withdrawal and prescribing challenges

  • Peer support providers, therapists, caregivers, and advocates

  • Anyone interested in building safer, more humane health care systems

Dr. Mark Horowitz, MBBS, PhD
Clinical Research Fellow in Psychiatry (NHS), Visiting Lecturer at King’s College London, and Co-Founder of Outro Health. Lead author of the Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines and co-author of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ guidelines on stopping antidepressants. Dr. Adam Urato
Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) physician in his hometown of Framingham, Massachusetts. He grew up in Framingham and attended Harvard College and Harvard Medical School.  He did his OB/GYN residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital. His Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship was at Tufts Medical Center.  He has an active clinical practice taking care of high-risk pregnancies and delivering babies.  He writes and lectures on medication exposures in pregnancy.  He has taken a leading role in opposing ineffective drugs and harmful approaches to care in pregnancy including opposing Makena (an ineffective preterm birth drug which the FDA pulled off the market in 2023). He is a strong supporter of freedom of speech and informed consent.
