The Climate Kids Are Alright (COP31 Edition)
Hosted by: AYCC, Climate Writers, Blue Minds, Plan International Australia and UNICEF Australia
COP31 is coming — but what does that actually mean for young people?
This workshop is for anyone who’s curious about COPs, already involved in climate action, or still figuring out where they fit. It’s a chance to learn from other young people, connect across movements, and explore how you might want to engage with COP31 including Australia as President of COP31 Negotiations, in ways that feel meaningful and impactful.
We’ll kick off with a short, practical introduction to how COP negotiations work, and look at where child and youth rights can sit across different negotiation tracks — from finance and adaptation to loss and damage and beyond.
You’ll also hear reflections from young people who’ve been inside COP spaces — the wins, the frustrations, and the surprising moments — including what COPs are really like, what helps (and what doesn’t), and the different pathways into COPs, from policy and advocacy to art, storytelling, and more!
Together, we’ll reflect on lessons from past COPs, start shaping shared youth priorities, and begin building a collective vision for what rights-based youth and child engagement at COP31 should look like.
