Join us at Rita House for the opening of "Encounters," a solo exhibition by visual artist Eva Malhotra.
Born in Mexico, Malhotra’s practice is a physical excavation of color and meaning. Her signature process involves layering multiple strata of acrylic paint on wood, then using carving tools to gouge the surface, revealing hidden histories, vibrant honeycombs of pigment, and intricate landscapes that bridge the internal and the external.
From the U.S./Mexico border to the liminal spaces of the human psyche, Malhotra’s work invites viewers to look closer, and even reach out and touch. She encourages viewers to engage with their eyes and hands. These are tactile, sculptural paintings meant to be felt as much as seen.
In the past 5 years, Malhotra has exhibited in India, Japan, Chile, Sweden, and Mexico. During her exhibition in Bihar she held a workshop for 40 blind schoolgirls to make artwork with multi-textured items.
Malhotra has also participated in several group exhibitions throughout her trajectory.
