BOOK CLUB: Mother Mary Comes To Me by Arundhati Roy
Mother Mary Comes To Me by Arundhati Roy
Book synopsis:
Mother Mary Comes to Me is a memoir by Arundhati Roy published in 2025. It is centred on the eventful life of her mother Mary Roy, who is "sharp, restless and charismatic, a visionary ruling with an iron fist" and Arundhati Roy's relations with her.
Host:
The book club discussion will be hosted by Sonali Oberoi: Born and raised in India to Punjabi-Malayali parents and now based in London, Sonali is a social worker and endlessly curious about people and what makes them tick. Her work with families has deepened her fascination with identity, belonging, and the complicated ways our histories shape us.
She is particularly drawn to books exploring South Asia and its diaspora, culture, migration and colonialism; the ones she loves most leave her with lots of thoughts, feelings and opinions that simply cannot be kept to herself.
Outside work, Sonali loves hiking, losing time in bookshops, listening to Kishore Kumar and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and devoting perhaps a disproportionate amount of her life to her dog.
