Inside the BBC's Biggest Digital Event Ever: Product Lessons from the World Cup

In June, the BBC ran the largest live event in UK digital history with millions of people streaming and checking scores across BBC platforms at once.

Arun, Product Leader for Live Experiences at the BBC, will unpack what a tournament like that does to a product operating model built to serve need states as far apart as a two-hour live watch and an eight-second score check.

He'll cover how horizontal platform capabilities held up against wildly different experience teams — streaming on one side, informational products on the other — and why building something was the easy part. Getting the right audience to it took segmentation, targeting, and a lot of time with marketing and content.

Then there's the harder problem: a tournament drives enormous high-intent, short-term consumption, but converting any of that into sticky retention is a separate fight entirely — especially with infrequent and younger audiences.

Expect real product craft: the frameworks that held, what broke, and what the whole experience changed about how Arun leads.

For mid-to-senior PMs — especially anyone who's ever felt their roadmap gets shaped by forces well outside their control.
