About Event

Applications are now open for the KwaXolo Impact Challenge!

From April 16 to April 29, we will be bringing together university teams to develop a technical solution with real-world impact. This is not a hypothetical case competition or a one-off hackathon, but a real challenge connected to a real community, built with real guidance, and pitched for the opportunity to be piloted on the ground in South Africa.

The challenge runs across three sessions:

  • April 16 from 17.00-21.00 - Intro Session at Microsoft, Lyngby: Meet your team, receive the case, and kick off the challenge

  • April 22 from 17.00-21.00 - Building & Feedback at Station, Frederiksberg: Develop your solution with expert mentors and hands-on feedback

  • April 29 from 17.00-21.00 - Final Pitch at CBS in Frederiksberg: Present to a panel of judges with the winning solution gets funded and implemented

The KwaXolo Impact Challenge sits at the intersection of innovation, implementation, and social impact. Across three sessions, teams will work to develop a digital transformation strategy that will be piloted in the KwaZulu-Natal region. Along the way, participants will move from case introduction to solution development and final pitching, with support from experienced mentors and partners throughout the process.

We are proud to partner with Microsoft, who will support the challenge by hosting the opening session, providing access to relevant technology and software, and helping guide teams as they build their solutions. Across these sessions at Microsoft, Station, and CBS, you and your team will develop your idea, refine it with feedback, and pitch for the chance to see it implemented in practice.

We are looking for people who want to apply their skills to something tangible. You’ll leave with sharper problem-solving skills, practical experience working on an international development challenge, and the opportunity to contribute to something that extends far beyond the programme itself.

Huge thanks to the partners helping shape and deliver the challenge, including Microsoft, Station, and Tuborgfondet for helping make it possible.
