Lost Wax Casting: Silver Pendant Workshop
Join us for a workshop where you carve your very own custom pendant using the lost wax casting method, with a take home you will cherish forever!!
During this 3.5 hour workshop, Katherine Wu will review the basic principles of creating a pendant using the lost wax casting method. Guests will learn how to carve their own designs into jewelers wax using a variety of tools and make their own unique pendant design, which will be finished with an included 18" sterling silver chain.
At the end of our time together, you can choose whether to get your pendant cast in sterling silver. If so, your pendant will be professionally cast and polished, and once paid, you will receive the final silver version of the your pendant secured to an 18 inch silver chain in 5-6 weeks by mail.
This ticket covers the cost of the workshop including 3.5 hours of instruction, access to tools, your wax model, and an 18 inch silver chain. Due to the unique weight of each pendant and the daily changing cost of silver all guests will receive an estimated final cost (within a calculated range), and be invoiced separately for the silver cost of the final product if choosing to cast.
About the Artist
Katherine Wu is a Philadelphia-based artist and silversmith. She is a graduate of New York's jewelry trade school Studio Jewelers and specializes in the art of lost wax casting. Her designs draw inspiration from the everyday beauty around us - whether that's the slow path of a raindrop down a window or the intricate cross-section of a lotus root slice. Each piece is thoughtfully crafted to celebrate simplicity, the charm of imperfection, and the stories that shape us. She has a long list of hobbies, including but not limited to: knitting, hiking, and foraging for morels.

What can I expect from a workshop at RecCreate?
Workshops at RecCreate are like the art school education your parents never let you get, at a tiny fraction of the price led by NYC’s most talented creatives + educators. We make sure you leave with something very special along with the know-how to continue exploring at home. Our emphasis is on education, creative exploration and tool proficiency.
As with all RecCreate events, you can expect to go on this journey with a room full of lovely strangers. We’ll offer opportunities for connection throughout our time— encouraging the spirit of the collective. It is (so) much more fun to get to create together.
Safety Disclaimer
Just want to note that use of sharp tools is central to this technique. Please make sure to arrive well-rested as lack of sleep may impair motor skills and reaction times. That being said, this workshop is beginner friendly, fun, and no prior experience is necessary! We will require a signed waiver to participate.
Getting Here
The venue is a ~hidden~ art studio located at 20 Grand ave in brooklyn on the 6th floor of a commercial building! When you arrive, buzz #604, push to open and take the elevator up to 6 (push the elevator button until it turns red.!!) Take a right out of the elevator, and a left at the end of the hallway. The door will be the first one on your right.

Tickets are non-refundable/exchange-able! Please double check your calendar. In the event you are no longer able to make it, you are welcome to give your ticket to a friend or use our ticket swap sheet. Just send us an email!
