NO RSVP NEEDED — MEMBER DROP-IN EVENT

Join us at Sansaar Books for a private member screening of Sarah Maldoror’s 1972 landmark political masterpiece, Sambizanga.

A towering work of anti-colonial cinema and one of the first feature films directed by a woman in Africa, Sambizanga follows Maria, a young Angolan woman who embarks on a desperate journey across the country with her baby strapped to her back to find her arrested militant husband. Crafted with striking visual beauty and emotional resonance, Maldoror honors the quiet, indispensable role of women, children, and underground networks in the liberation struggle against Portuguese colonial rule.
