Climate writers 🌱 September ft. IPCC scientist Nina Lansbury on climate adaptation and shaping the world's climate knowledge
A monthly gatho to learn about climate solutions from experts and take climate action.
Our guest speaker is Associate Professor Nina Lansbury, an environmental health researcher and a Coordinating Lead Author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The IPCC is often called the world’s most authoritative climate body, with its findings influencing governments, companies and communities worldwide. But how does it actually work? Who decides what goes into its reports, and how should we trust (or question) its findings? Dr Lansbury will peel back the curtain on the IPCC to demystify its structure and process, and explain what it means when nations turn to its science to shape climate action.
Dr Lansbury will also share her research on climate adaptation, focusing on human health and Indigenous knowledges. Her work highlights the environmental health challenges facing remote Indigenous communities in Australia and the Torres Strait – from housing and water security to women’s health – and how these communities are navigating the pressures of a changing climate.
What can we learn from the inside of the IPCC? And what does meaningful adaptation look like for communities already on the frontlines of climate change?
