About Event

Ask and ye shall receive: A lino printing workshop for beginners! You're interested in the topic but have no idea where to start? Already have all the materials but what do you do now? Julius will lead you through it!

Julius' plan:

During the workshop we will go through the basic technique of block printing, starting with how to plan your design and the possibilities to transfer your design on the linoblock. We will use the fastest one, so we don’t lose time. But I will show you some ways for complex and detailed, as well as large scale projects. Then we will go through the possibilities to carve and what to look out for. And of course: printing your design. Maximum size is A3. I would recommend A5 or postcard size (10x15cm). Based on how complex your design is, you are free to think about it in advance, but there is no need to prepare something.

Julius is bringing a few tools and materials, including a press, but since it's a limited amount, it's best to bring your own materials. He's compiled a list with everything necessary. If you wish to you can buy these at your local creative store or places like Müller.

  • Linoleum sheet

  • Carving tools

  • Pencil / ballpoint pen / Sharpie

  • Clothes that can get dirty from the ink

If you have these:

  • Masking tape

  • Glass or Plexiglas plate

  • Linoleum roller

  • Linoleum print ink

  • Paper of your choice (slightly thicker paper is helpful—I like to use mixed-media paper—but really any paper will work)

Safety: I rarely use this, but it can be helpful

  • Non-slip mat (available for tablecloths) or safety board

This workshop is donation based. Nothing is expected. If you wish to give something, you can give it to Julius directly at the end of the workshop :)

For any organizational questions you can come to me, Vero. For any questions regarding lino printing, materials, tools and so on, please refer to Julius.
