SENSE: Sensor Engineering Network for Science & Education Community Workshop
PLEASE NOTE: This event is only open to the NYU Community (active students, staff, and faculty). Use your nyu.edu email during registration. Thank you!
Sensors increasingly shape how we understand and manage the world around, informing decisions in fields ranging from infrastructure and environmental science to user experience and urban resilience. The Sensor Engineering Network for Science and Education brings together graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty across disciplines to exchange knowledge and strengthen our collective expertise in sensor design and deployment.
The first portion of the workshop will feature a presentation by Charlie Mydlarz, who will discuss FloodNet, a low-cost street flood monitoring network deployed across New York City. This talk will highlight practical considerations in electronics design, power management, communication systems, calibration, field deployment, and data workflows, offering valuable lessons for anyone developing or applying sensor-based systems.
The second portion will focus on an interactive discussion aimed at identifying existing expertise, shared resources, and emerging needs within the NYU research community. Through guided conversation and participant polling, attendees will help shape a vision for enhanced collaboration and future workshops format.
This workshop seeks to foster interdisciplinary connections, accelerate learning, and catalyze innovation toward creating robust, scalable, and impactful sensor technologies.
This event will take place in-person at the NYU MakerSpace. Looking forward to seeing you here!
