When AI Makes an Error, Who Is Responsible?
6:00pm — Doors & arrivals
6:30pm — Panel discussion + audience Q&A
7:30pm — Open networking
When an AI system causes harm, where should responsibility sit? With the developer who built it, the organisation that deployed it, or the person who used it?
Accountability is not one question. It looks different depending on whether you come to it from engineering, law, policy or philosophy, and those versions do not always fit neatly together.
This event brings technical and policy perspectives together around that question. We are not aiming for a single answer. The aim is to surface where accountability breaks down in practice, where technical and policy perspectives diverge, and what each side can learn from the other.
Speakers
Ella Shoup
Senior AI Policy Analyst on GSK’s Responsible AI team, where she works to hold internal AI products to ethical standards and advance responsible AI practice in life sciences. She holds an MPA in Digital Technology Policy from UCL.
Varsha Ramineni
PhD researcher and DeepMind Scholar at UCL, part of the NLP group. Her research focuses on AI bias, safety and developing reliable evaluation methods. She previously studied Statistics at Oxford and Mathematics at Warwick.
Format
We are keeping this one deliberately small: around 30 people from technical, policy and governance backgrounds, with a discussion-led format rather than a presentation and enough time afterwards to actually talk to each other.
Free to attend, but spaces are limited.
