Bitcoin Wallets: You Don't Store Bitcoin, You Manage Keys | Pune
This is Beginner Friendly meetup. We will cover the basic concepts from scratch.
We Look behind the math involved in a simplified manner
Your wallet holds zero Bitcoin; it holds the exact mathematical secrets required to convince a global network that you have the right to move it.
Most newcomers treat Bitcoin wallets like digital bank accounts that "contain" funds. This mental model fails the moment you design software, audit security, or manage backups. In this Bitshala session, we abandon consumer abstractions to focus on protocol reality: wallets are deterministic cryptographic key managers that construct and sign state transitions for an open ledger.
AGENDA
Coins vs. Keys: Deconstruct the wallet state model. Stop viewing wallets as balance containers and start understanding how public key cryptography defines on-chain property rights.
Keys, Addresses & Ownership: Trace the cryptographic derivation chain. Understand how private keys yield public keys and spending addresses to enforce mathematical ownership over UTXOs.
BIP Standards & Recovery: Master deterministic seed derivation. Learn how BIP39, BIP32, and BIP44 map 12 entropy-generated words to millions of recoverable addresses.
Hands-on Wallet Operations: Build, sign, and broadcast transactions. Spin up a local testnet or regtest environment to construct, sign, and send transactions safely without real-world capital risk.
Threat Vectors & Security: Analyze real-world wallet attack patterns. Evaluate trade-offs across wallet types and identify side-channel, bad entropy, and seed exposure risks before you write wallet code.
NOTE: If you get a Laptop, you may have a hands-on demo of creating your first wallet.
WHO'S GUIDING
Led by Bitshala educators and open-source builders dedicated to onboarding the next generation of Bitcoin developers.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Tone: Grounded, educational, and conceptual. We strictly focus on architecture and mechanics—no price predictions or investment advice.
Difficulty: Beginner-friendly. We assume zero background in cryptography or advanced programming; everything is explained from absolute first principles.
IS THIS FOR YOU?
You are a developer or builder eager to understand the underlying cryptographic primitives of Bitcoin rather than relying on abstract consumer UI.
You prefer terminal commands, raw transaction inspection, and hands-on protocol mechanics over trading, speculation, or marketing hype.
You want to know precisely what occurs at the script and key level when a transaction is signed and broadcast.
You value self-sovereignty and want to build or run wallets with a deep understanding of operational security trade-offs.
Prior cryptography experience is not required. Curiosity about how decentralized state and key management actually work is.
Stop relying on consumer interfaces—come learn how Bitcoin ownership is enforced by mathematics.
About Bitshala
Bitshala is a Bitcoin-focused education initiative where we help developers, designers, and curious builders learn by doing. We run cohorts, clubs, workshops, a hackerspace, and community programs that make it easier for people to explore, contribute to, and build on Bitcoin. Our focus is on hands-on learning, proof-of-work, and growing alongside a community of people who care about open technology, design, and the future of money.
