About Event

This invite-only Climate Week NYC event will explore what it takes to build food systems resilient to compound climate, ecological, and conflict shocks.

Food systems depend on healthy ecosystems as much as they depend on a stable climate and peace, but it’s not clear how well the tools built to protect food security actually account for that. Early warning systems, financing frameworks, and governance and capacity-building efforts are largely designed around climate and conflict (albeit to a limited degree). Where—if at all—are ecological considerations built into how these systems anticipate, finance, and govern food-system resilience? And where are the real gaps, as opposed to the ones we assume exist?

This exploratory conversation brings together the people who run these systems—technical experts in early warning, financing practitioners, and governance specialists—to test that question directly. Where has ecological data changed a forecast, a financing decision, or a governance response? Where has it consistently been left out? Why and to what effect?

Intended Outcomes

  • A shared framing for participants to identify how to better integrate ecological indicators into early-warning, financing, and capacity-building systems.

  • A key takeaways document for policymakers to encourage a follow-on discussion.

  • Relationship building to support continued collaboration among participants and session partners on climate-nature-conflict food security work.
