What does climate change really look like?

On October 1, 2025, join Christian Clauwers – photographer, polar explorer, and longtime member of international climate missions – for a striking visual journey into the world’s most fragile places.

Over the past decade, Clauwers has explored both Poles, crossed five oceans, and documented the raw beauty – and accelerating collapse – of glaciers, coral reefs, and coastal nations already living the consequences of a warming planet.

Hosted by the Collège des Ingénieurs, this unique keynote blends powerful photography, untold stories from extreme environments, and hard-won insights from the frontlines of climate science.

You’ll stand on melting ice, sail through rising seas, and witness the future already unfolding in places most will never see.

📸 A rare, first-hand account of the climate emergency.

⏰ Seats are limited: reserve your spot now. See the crisis through the eyes of someone who’s been there.

Additional notes:

In this lecture, Christian Clauwers, documentary photographer, explorer, and ambassador for the EU Climate Pact, takes the audience on a visual journey through the polar regions, ocean research, disappearing island nations, and heritage preservation in a changing world.

From melting sea ice in Antarctica and melting glaciers in Greenland and the Alps to endangered islands in the Pacific Ocean. ... Using images and experiences from the field, Clauwers shows how scientific expeditions offer us crucial insights into vulnerable ecosystems. He also takes a look at two of the most mysterious and least accessible archives in the world: the Svalbard Global Seed Vault and the Arctic World Archive, in which Belgium has also recently become involved.

In addition, marine research is also discussed, including Christian's collaboration with multiple governments, such as the Belgian gov. for the research vessel R/V BELGICA. Also featured are research projects in Greenland, the Swiss Alps and Antarctica, such as polar research in Marie Byrd Land, one of the least explored regions on Earth.

With his work, Clauwers builds a bridge between science, policy, and culture – and shows how visual storytelling not only makes complex material understandable, but can also encourage collaboration and reflection.
