Financing Climate Adaptation: Shaping i-Adapt | A closed-door roundtable
About Event
India has a growing pipeline of technologies, enterprises and locally
developed solutions addressing water security, climate-resilient agriculture, extreme heat, resilient infrastructure, nature-based solutions, and livelihood resilience. However, many remain pilots because they lack the combination of validated demand, government adoption pathways, suitable finance, evidence of impact and market access required for scale.
To help close this gap, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), in partnership with the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC), is proposing i-Adapt, a Climate Adaptation Innovation Hub, under GIZ’s CAFRI programme. The Hub would identify priority adaptation problems, source and validate solutions, create real-world demonstrations, develop investible projects, and connect solutions with government programmes, corporates and financial institutions.
Convened by GIZ, IGCC and Intellecap, this invite-only, closed-door roundtable brings government and financial institutions together to shape i-Adapt from its early days.
What we will work through
The adaptation problems where government wants scalable solutions, such as heat stress for workers, water security for agriculture, flood resilience or resilient rural infrastructure
Where government can offer real-world sites and programmes to demonstrate and validate solutions, and what evidence it needs before adopting an innovation into a scheme or procurement process
The procurement, regulatory and institutional barriers that slow the adoption of adaptation solutions today
Which adaptation investments are already financeable through conventional lending, and which need concessional capital, guarantees or first-loss support
How adaptation finance can be structured around avoided losses, productivity gains, cost savings or revenue protection
Which risk-sharing mechanisms would materially change lending decisions, and whether financial institutions could set an indicative financing envelope for projects graduating from i-Adapt
Who it is for
Senior representatives from central and State governments, and from banks, DFIs and other financial institutions, working on climate adaptation and resilience.
