About Event

"The fundamental error of modern man is his conception of himself as being so different from what man has been in other periods of history that he considers himself unable to submit humbly to tradition...To become convinced of our unchanging human nature, fallen but redeemed, requires a sustained effort of self-control, silent meditation, and surrender to ritual prayer – in other words, exactly what the traditional Latin liturgy abundantly provides for."

-Dr. Peter Kwasniewski, from The Once and Future Roman Rite: Returning to the Traditional Latin Liturgy after Seventy Years of Exile

Please join us on Saturday, June 27, 2pm at Le Pain Quotidien (70 W 40th St) for a discussion of Dr. Kwasniewski's book The Once and Future Roman Rite, which argues for the full restoration of the traditional Latin Mass – the lex orandi codified by Saint Pius V and received by all of his successors until the twentieth century.

In parallel, the book also argues that the Novus Ordo Missae constitutes a rupture with fundamental elements of all liturgies of apostolic derivation, and that it suffers from nominalism, voluntarism, Protestantism, rationalism, and other modern errors that have purportedly damaged the Church over the past five decades.

Is he correct?

We'll examine the arguments laid out by Dr. Kwasniewski and explore their implications. Come prepared with your questions and thoughts.

Note: This event will be the first of two meetups. The first meetup on June 27 will cover chapters 1-6; the second meetup covering chapters 7-12 will be scheduled for Saturday, July 25.
