Tropic Editions Publisher Showcase
While in town for the New York Art Book Fair, Honolulu-based imprint Tropic Editions presents a one-night only publisher showcase with books, merch, film screenings, and music from the TE extended ʻohana.
Tropic Editions has arrived in New York!
For the last eight years, Tropic Editions has cultivated a network of artist collaborators, many of whom are from the tropics, but made their way elsewhere. We have made it our mission to embrace critical, experimental, Indigenous and queer perspectives that originate from our position in the tropics, the Hawaiian Islands.
Program
In celebration of our participation in Printed Matter’s New York Art Book Fair, we invite you to join us for a showcase of what our press is all about, with a handful of our artist collaborators and friends.
We will be sharing food and drink, showcasing our various book projects, merch, stickers, and more. We have two books launching this week for the NYABF: Our Bodies are Memories of Our Bodies, by Dan Taulapapa McMullin, and Rainbow Hash [redux] by Drew Kahu’aina Broderick and Lawrence Seward. We also have a brand new collection of merch from artist (and longtime collaborator) haubush .
Vincent Bercasio will be providing the soundscape, mixing together various soundtracks, edits, and music created over the years for Tropic projects .
And throughout the night, weʻll be screening several of our short films we have made over the last eight years.
Facilitator
Tropic Editions is a nonprofit arts publishing imprint based in Hawai'i. We support Native Hawaiian and Hawai‘i based artists, as well as artists throughout the tropics and in diaspora, through the production of creative works which critically engage with place. While primarily an imprint for books, the imprint is a publishing platform for a variety of media, and has also produced print editions, merch, posters, films, scores, exhibitions, performances, fashion shows, and more.
